Help support the 3 million people living with cancer in the UK

By 13th February 2020

Join Team Macmillan and raise money for people living with cancer.

Choose to run for Macmillan Cancer Support and help make a real difference to people living with cancer, so they can live life as fully as they can. Cancer can affect anyone and every two minutes someone in the UK receives a diagnosis which might turn their life upside down. By choosing to support Macmillan you are helping us reach our goal of being there for everyone from the point of their cancer diagnosis. As the number of people living with cancer in the UK is increasing by 3% every year your support is as vital as ever. We help people make sense of their diagnosis, guide them through treatment and provide help and support on every aspect of life including physical, emotional and financial.

Joining Team Macmillan means that we will be there every step of the way through your training and fundraising, to help get you across that finish line. We will provide special training guides and those all-important fundraising tips, so you feel ready to face your challenge head on.  We’ll be in Brighton over the whole weekend from Friday to Sunday so if there was anything you needed last minute, we are there to help.

We have 3 of our famous cheer points throughout the course, so we’ll be giving you that boost when you need it and helping you get to that finish line. Once you’ve finished, we’ll be there in the event village so come and see us, grab a cup of tea and other refreshments and celebrate with Team Macmillan and your friends and family. You will also be able to recharge by receiving a complementary massage.

There are over 3 million people living with cancer in the UK and this is set to grow to almost 4 million by 2030. Over 70% of people who have a cancer diagnosis need emotional support at some point in their cancer experience. Research shows 20% of people living with cancer are affected by depression, and 10% are affected by anxiety. Macmillan funds cancer nurses, support workers and other health professional to help ensure people with cancer get the physical and emotional support they need.

There are so many ways that your support can help people living with cancer. We are almost entirely funded by donations and simply cannot support the growing number of people who need us without your help. The money that you raise could go towards funding our vital services such as:

  • £67 could keep a typical Macmillan information and support centre stocked with all the information resources it needs to support people affected by cancer for 1 week. These resources would include booklets, guides directories and leaflets.
  • £118 could pay for a Macmillan Support Worker for 1 day, helping people living with cancer receive the support they need.
  • £520 could fund a project aiming to reach people living with cancer in LGBT communities.
  • £1,075 could pay for a Macmillan nurse for 1 week, helping people living with cancer and their families received essential medical, practical and emotional support.

So, what are you waiting for? Sign up today, put on that green t-shirt and support people living with cancer.

If you already have a place we’d still love you to join Team Macmillan. You will receive all the same benefits but we just ask you to raise as much as you can!
