Self-confessed crazy cat lady, Rachel Marsh, is calling for others to follow her lead and take on a marathon challenge for Cats Protection.
Inspired by her own cats, Mr Nugget and the late Miss Flurry, Rachel completed the Brighton Marathon in 2019 and raised over £700 for the charity.
“I wanted to run my first marathon for a charity that was close to my heart. Cats Protection really helped and supported me when I needed it the most,” she explained.
“I can never really thank them enough but I wanted to pay them back the best way I could. Nugget and I are still extremely thankful.”
Brighton Marathon is famous for the sea views and iconic landmarks but it was the crowd that Rachel says spurred her forwards to the finishing line.
“My number one top tip is put your name on your t-shirt. You never quite understand how powerful a stranger cheering your name really is – it’s heart-warming.
“Also the finish is the BEST feeling. The emotions that appear are like no other and it’s quite overwhelming,” she revealed.
The Cat Champion also smashed her fundraising target, raising a total of £716 to support Cats Protection’s programme of rehoming, neutering and education.
“Simple ideas like cake sales worked best for me as people got something in return. I also shared my fundraising page on my birthday and asked for donations instead of cards.
“Running a marathon is just the last 26.2 miles of your training!”
