The BM Ride 2022 is organised and administered by The Grounded Events Company Limited (Co. No.6363644) whose registered office is at Preston Park House, South Road, Brighton, East Sussex BN1 6SB (“we” or “us” which expression includes our employees, event officials, authorised agents, sub-contractors or volunteers)

Participants accept that cycling the 50k distance is only for persons with an appropriate degree of physical fitness and who have undertaken a suitable training regime. It is your responsibility to seek appropriate medical advice prior to participation. Participation in the event is entirely at your own risk and, by entering the event, participants acknowledge that we shall not be liable for death, injury, loss or damage arising from participation in the event save to the extent that it is caused by our negligence.
You confirm that all details provided by you in the registration form are true, and that you understand and agree with these Terms & Conditions, and Rules of the Ride.

Injuries and Personal Health and Fitness
By signing up to take part in this event you accept complete responsibility for any injury or accident which may occur while you are travelling to or from the event, during the event, or while on the premises of the event save to the extent any injury or accident is caused by our negligence.
You understand that participating in this event is potentially hazardous, and you should not enter and participate unless you are medically able and properly trained.
We recommend that you consult your doctor prior to undertaking training for a bike ride. It is your responsibility to make sure you are medically fit and capable of participating in the BM Ride. We reserve the right, in our absolute discretion, to stop any rider from taking part if we deem him or her unfit to ride, including mid-ride removal from the course where necessary.

Medical Treatment While Attending the BM Ride
By entering this event, you are confirming that should you require any medical treatments during your attendance at the event, whether before, during or after the actual ride, they may be administered by the events’ official medically qualified personnel.

You must not attend the event if you are displaying symptoms for COVID-19 or have displayed symptoms for COVID-19 in the last 14 days leading up to the event. Symptoms include:
1. A high temperature
2. A new, continuous cough
3. A loss or change to your sense of smell
If you develop symptoms within 14 days of attending the event you must notify us.
By entering the event you are consenting to us passing on your contact details if necessary, to the relevant authorities for the purposes of Track and Trace.

Participants must be 14 years of age and over, on event day, in order to enter this event. Any participant under the age of 18 must have prior permission (via completion of the registration form) from their parent or guardian in order to participate in the BM Ride.
You must not under any circumstances give your rider number to anyone else. Amongst other potential problems, doing so may cause problems of identification for the event medical services in the case of any accident or injury. Any attempt to do so will result in immediate disqualification of the individual(s) concerned and ejection from the event.

Refunds, Transfers and Deferred Entries

Cancellations and Transfers
You will be able to cancel your entry, and receive a full refund, within 14 days of your purchase. In such circumstances, you will receive a full refund of your entry fee. The processing fee is non-refundable and an additional processing fee of £1.45 will be deducted from the total amount refunded.
Cancellations are not possible unless we receive your written request within 14 days of your purchase.
Alternatively, you may, by contacting us in writing prior to 5pm on the 14th November 2021 to transfer your entry to another runner. Any such transfer will be made by us re-registering the entry in the name of the alternative runner who will be required to accept the terms and conditions of entry prior to the transfer being completed.
Transfers are not possible unless we receive your written request prior to 5pm on the 14th November 2021.

If you are entering the 2022 BM Ride after having deferred your entry from the 2020/2021 BM Ride, please note that a further deferral to the 2023 BM Ride will not be allowed.
If you wish to defer your 2022 race entry to the 2023 BM Ride, you are guaranteed an entry for the 2023 BM Ride, but you will have to pay the applicable deferral fee for the 2023 race.
All deferrals must be submitted by 5pm on Wednesday the 6th April 2022.
You must read through the Deferral Policy prior to completing the form, and by completing the deferral request form, you are accepting the rules as applied by the event in relation to deferring your entry.

Rider Packs
Rider packs are to be collected from the Brighton Marathon Weekend Beach Village, as agreed by you within the registration form. This will take place on Brighton Beach, with Rider Pack collection being available on Friday 8th and Saturday 9th April 2022
Please complete the relevant medical details on the back of the rider number if you have any medical condition or are taking any medication(s). Under no circumstances are you allowed to sell or give your rider number to someone else and any attempt to do so will result in your entry being cancelled.

Travelling to and from the Event
You are entirely responsible for all travel to and from the event and we will not be liable if you miss the start of the event as a result of any transportation delays. In the circumstances, you must allow plenty of time in order to make sure that you arrive so as to be entirely ready to ride when the event starts.

Cancellation and Alterations to the Event
We reserve the right, in our absolute discretion, to cancel, delay, alter or shorten the course, or postpone the event due to unforeseen or unavoidable circumstances outside of our reasonable control. In such cases, we will endeavour to inform participants as quickly as is possible.
Where the event has to be cancelled, delayed, altered or postponed due to circumstances outside of our reasonable control (including for the avoidance of doubt due to adverse weather conditions or as a result of instructions from the emergency services or local authority) we shall not be liable for any inconvenience, expenses, costs, losses or damages suffered by participants.
Where the event has to be cancelled, delayed, altered or postponed due to circumstances that were within our reasonable control, our entire liability in respect of any inconvenience, expenses, costs, losses or damages suffered by you as a result will be limited to the entry price you have paid to take part in the event.

Participant Bikes & Personal Safety
Whilst participating in the BM Ride you must wear a cycle helmet at all times during the event; ensure that your bike is in a roadworthy condition; and you must not carry young children on your bike or carry children in a child seat, trailer or similar device.
You must follow the instructions of the officials, the Motorcycle Marshals, the volunteers and the route signs in order to ensure the safety of yourself and your fellow riders.
You are not permitted to take part in the BM Ride using any bicycle or item which may, in the reasonable opinion of the event organiser, present a risk or danger to you, another participant or any spectators, including but not limited to bikes with disc wheels (disc brakes are allowed), unicycles, penny farthings, tricycles, quad cycles, BMX bikes, fixed gear bikes/single speeds/fixies (allowed if have two independent brakes and a freehub) and hand bikes/cycles. Any unconventional handlebars, including triathlon bars, aero bars, clip-ons, prayer bars, Spinaci bars and cow bars, handlebar extensions and any bars without bar end plugs fitted are also not allowed.
Participants are not permitted to use any of the above or similar in the event and those attempting to do so will be prohibited from starting and may be forcibly removed from the course, including mid-ride where necessary.
Participants may use adapted bicycles at the discretion of the event organiser. In all circumstances, the participant must contact the event organiser as directed in the registration form.
Likewise, anyone attempting to start or join the ride in any outfit that we, in our absolute discretion, deem unsuitable and/or dangerous to other competitors or spectators, will not be allowed to start the event or, if on the course, may be forcibly removed from the event.
We welcome applications from riders with disabilities but please make contact with us by email at [email protected] prior to purchasing entry into the BM Ride. We will endeavour to make reasonable adjustments to accommodate any specialist equipment but require further clarification from you as to the nature of any disability and any specialist equipment adaptions that apply to your bike or other equipment before being able to establish whether or not, if reasonable adjustments can be made, the Bike Ride is suitable for you
Where you make use, on Event Day, of the bike storage facilities within the Velo Village, you acknowledge and agree that your bike is stored entirely at your, the participant’s, risk, and that neither The Grounded Events Company Ltd. nor its staff or contractors, may be held liable for any loss or accidental damage that occurs.

Animals will not be permitted on the BM Ride course.

Music while Riding
You are not permitted to use personal music-playing device whilst participating; iPods, MP3 Players or similar electronic music players must not be worn.
It is important that you are able to hear what is happening around you; this is particularly important in order to allow our emergency services and their vehicles to operate safely on the day which they may not be able to do if you are unable to hear what is happening around you throughout the event.
You will be held strictly and solely liable if found to be responsible for any harm to yourself or any third party or parties or damage to any property (whether yours or that of a third party) which arises as a result of you wearing any personal music playing device in contradiction of this term.

Ride Ejection
We reserve the right, in our absolute discretion, to refuse to allow you to participate in the event either at the start or to continue participation at any point along the route of the event, should you be deemed to behave inappropriately or give cause for concern that your continued participation may cause offence or injury to yourself, any spectators or other competitors.
This includes, but is not limited to, the wearing of any clothing or visual messages that may cause offence. Failure to comply with any instruction from ride officials and marshals will result in ejection from the ride and may also result in you being reported to the police.

Completion Time
BM Ride takes place immediately before the BM10k. In order not to disrupt the BM10k, riders are expected to maintain an average speed of 18km / 11miles per hour.
A sweep vehicle system will be in place to collect any riders who fall behind this time limit or otherwise cannot continue due to injury, fatigue, mechanical failure, etc.

Finisher Items
Only those who finish the BM Ride will be entitled to a Finisher’s Medal and bag. Please do not ask for more than one as marshals have been instructed to only issue one per person and your receiving more than one will deny another Finisher from receiving one or more of these items.

Use of Image
By taking part in the event you grant full and irrevocable permission to us, as organisers of the BM Ride, and any third parties authorised by us to use any photographs, videotapes, motion pictures, website images, recordings or any other record of this event that may include your image.

Collection and use of information
Your personal information will only be used by us and any appointed third parties for purposes in connection with the event and any subsequent events that we may organise or administer.
You will only be emailed as per the permissions that you have given within the registration form.
By entering the event you grant full and irrevocable permission for us to pass any medical details you have given us to the medical teams operating on the day of the event.
By entering the event you are consenting to us passing on your contact details if necessary, to the relevant authorities for the purposes of Track and Trace.

Change of email address or telephone number(s)
If your email address or telephone number details change, then you must inform us as soon as possible by emailing: [email protected] If this is not done, we cannot guarantee that you will receive all event communications.

When completing your registration, you are given the option to purchase a protection policy for your entry into the event.
