Brighton Table Tennis Club Launches Brand-New Moulsecoomb Venue
  • Launch event attended by Paralympic 2016 gold medallist Will Bayley and 2024 bronze medallist Bly Twomey
  • New venue made possible by £250,000 London Marathon Foundation grant

Brighton Table Tennis Club (BTTC) and the London Marathon Foundation (the Foundation) celebrated the launch of a new venue in Moulsecoomb yesterday (Monday 13 January.) Two Paralympic table tennis stars who train at BTTC – 2016 gold medallist Will Bayley and 2024 bronze medallist Bly Twomey – attended the official opening of the new venue along with young players, community champions and friends of the club.

The venue, made possible by a £250,000 grant from the Foundation, will be a fantastic new space for table tennis, food and community, enabling BTTC to expand on the success of its existing venue in Brighton. Table tennis is known to be one of the most accessible sports, helping both physical and mental agility for all ages. Both clubs are open to everyonewho wants to have a table tennis game, regardless of standard.

Tim Holtam, co-founder of Brighton Table Tennis Club, said: “We’ve seen from the success of our first venue the transformative impact we can have on children, families and local communities, by providing a community hub and the chance to try out a fun and accessible sport. We’re delighted that this funding from the London Marathon Foundation will allow us to further our reach and impact even more.”

The £250,000 grant from the Foundation’s strategic partnerships programme has supported the build of the new venue. Creating opportunities for more children and young people and marginalised groups and communities to lead active and healthy lives is at the heart of the Foundation’s work.

The Foundation is the parent charity of London Marathon Events, the world-leading mass participation events organiser and social impact company which took over the Brighton Marathon Weekend in 2023. The Foundation awards funding to organisations that inspire activity and this £250,000 grant to BTTC was the first award to an organisation in the city.

Nick Bitel, CEO of the London Marathon Group, said: It’s incredible to see the impact Brighton Table Tennis Club has had so far and how it has inspired so many to enjoy table tennis. We’re delighted to enable the growth of BTTC through this funding and we look forward to working with the club to continue their great work with players and in the community.”

The 2025 Brighton Marathon Weekend takes place on Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 April
